A refuge, a little church and - not far away - a blue lake reflecting the commanding profile of the Presanella, at 3,558 metres the highest mountain entirely in Trentino. This sight is the reward for whoever walks up the path from the Pozzi Alti fort to the Rifugio Stavel “F. Denza”, built by the SAT (Association of Trentino Mountaineers) at the end of the 19th century. The little church, however, is from the fifties, built out of the remains of an Austrian wartime barracks. The refuge is energy self-sufficient, thanks to a hydroelectric turbine, and is designed to minimise its environmental impact. Open From 20 June to 20 September Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks The “Sentiero dei Todeschi” is a 2-hour circular walk from the refuge passing the shores of the lake and skirting the edge of the glacier (difficulty E). The walks to the Rifugio Val d'Amola “Giovanni Segantini” (7 hours, EEA) and to the Rifugio Mandron Città di Trento (6 ½ hours), however, require mountaineering skills and appropriate equipment (difficulty EEA).
