The circular tour of the Saent Waterfalls takes you to one of the most suggestive corners of Northwestern Trentino , at the foot of the foamy cascades created by the Rabbies Torrent.

The itinerary runs inside the Stelvio National Park , in the Ortles-Cevedale Massif, cut by the evocative Val del Saent.

The difference in height (about 200 m ) can be tackled in one go, along a rather steep narrow stepped trail. Even though the itinerary can be tough, it is nevertheless recommended for families with children, obviously without a pushchair.

Please note that the practicability of the itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the contingent conditions and is therefore influenced by natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this page may have changed. Before leaving for a tour, make sure the path you will approach is still accessible by contacting the owner of the mountain hut, the alpine guides or the visitor centres of the nature parks, the info offices of the local tourist board.

Starting point

Malga Stablosol (1529 m)

Directions

The trek starts at the car park at Ramoni di Coler, where there’s a convenient shuttle bus (the ticket costs € 1) up to Malga Stablasol mountain dairy ( 1529 m – Bar & Restaurant), which cuts the walking time by about half an hour.

From Malga Stablasol mountain dairy take the dirt track uphill, in the direction of Valle del Saent – Cascate Saent (Rifugio Dorigoni), reaching a crossroads after about 200m.

Head down the right hand lane which leads to the stream, after a short downhill stretch. Cross to the other side on a characteristic wooden bridge (to the left bank, looking downstream, or the right bank upstream) and follow the mule track uphill alongside the stream. The route here becomes steeper and steeper as you go along and the mule track eventually turns into a trail. Here you already start hearing the splashing sound of the waterfall. Continuing along the trail you pass various observation points where you can catch different views of the falls.

Heading along the trail, after a number of steps, and ignoring the fork on the right (at 1690 m ), you reach the upper leap of the Saent fall. At the foot of the waterfall there’s a bridge from which you can admire the falling water from the bottom. Returning to the other side of the stream (the right bank, looking downstream), after a short uphill stretch along the trail you come to a rest point near the crossroads with trail No. 106. Before descending we recommend you continue uphill for another short stretch to the “ Doss del la Cros ” rest point ( 1799 m ). From here you can continue slightly downhill, and then on flat ground, along trail No. 106, to Malga Prà del Saent (fountain), on a suggestive flat-lying meadow, where woodchucks reign supreme. Looking upward from here you can admire the upper Saent fall, another half hour’s walk away.

Trace your steps back to the crossroads mentioned above (crossroads with trail No. 106) and descend via trail No. 106, in the direction of the “Centro Visita Stablet”. Along a narrow paved mule track, after a series of broad bends, you reach the Vistors Centre of Malga   Stablet (at 1589 m ). Descending another lane you return to Malga Stablosol ( 1529 m ), where – if you so wish - you can stop for refreshments at the Bar & Restaurant.

How to get there

Driving along the “SS42 della Valle di Non e Valle di Sole” national road, just before the town of Malè take the uphill fork on the right in the direction of Val di Rabbi. Cross the entire valley and continue towards “Bagni di Rabbi” to the “Coler” car park at the top of the valley; the rates are € 3 for the whole day (you need to pay at the ticket machine, so make sure you have change). From the car park there’s a shuttle bus service (the ticket costs € 5) to Malga Stablasol. The ticket is valid for the whole day for any bus of the Stelviobus Rabbi Service.
