If your ambition is to climb Cevedale, or if you are simply content to admire it from below, this is the place for you: the Rifugio Cevedale Guido Larcher is situated on a rock terrace at the foot of the highest peak in Trentino (on the border with Lombardy and South Tyrol) in a majestic and impressive environment, especially if you aren’t used to high mountains. We are in the Stelvio National Park, where you can easily come into contact with the wildlife. If you want to marvel at the splendour of the Mare glacier, you can also walk up to this refuge (opened in the 1990s on the site of an older building) in spring, when it is sometimes open for ski mountaineers. Open From 20 June to 20 September From mid-March to mid-April Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks To climb Cevedale across the Mare glacier requires mountaineering experience and involves a 4-hour walk over the glacier. Within the capabilities of any walker, instead, is the route from the refuge to the valley that first ascends to the Lago della Marmotta, then continues to the Malga Mare car park via Lake Careser (2 hours, difficulty E).
