Val di Sole: the land of water

Where we are

The defining element of Val di Sole is water. In fact, the toponym "Sol," from which it takes its name, is believed to originate from the Celtic water deity Sulis, regarded as the Great Mother and source of life. The connection between the land and water is renewed in every season of the year: sawmills, mills, renewable energy, winter sports, river sports, thermal springs, and the water flowing in streams, rivers, and waterfalls, water that becomes snow and covers the ski slopes, and water that turns into ice at higher altitudes.

Mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes: Val di Sole represents pure mountain nature, a land waiting to be explored. It is located in northwestern Trentino between the Ortles-Cevedale, Adamello-Presanella, and Brenta Dolomites mountain ranges, the latter declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.

Val di Sole stretches for over 40 km along the Noce River, which has been ranked by National Geographic as one of the world's top ten rivers for rafting. Much of the area is protected by the Adamello Brenta Nature Park to the south and the Stelvio National Park to the north, where the two side valleys, Val di Peio and Val di Rabbi, extend.
