Here are some tips...
Easy: approx. 1 hour 30 mins - Fontanino Bus stop
Starting from the bridge in the Fontanino area, take the trail that goes up towards Malga Celentino (alpine dairy) and the Pian Palù lake. Walk alongside the lake, which is a nice flat walk, until you reach Malga Palù (alpine dairy), approximately 200 meters after the dairy, cross over the bridge above the stream and follow the trail on the right. From here, continue onwards until you reach the pasture beneath Malga Giumella, then take the forest road to the dam and then back to the Fontanino area. This is a loop itinerary that you can try in either direction.
Moderate: approx. 4 hours - Malga Frattasecca Bus stop
Take trail n. 110 that crosses through the bottom of the valley and then goes up to Fort Barbadifior. From here continue to «Pont del Margolìn», a walkway that takes you to the opposite side. Cross the paved road along the bottom of the valley from where you will find the trail that takes you to the pastures surrounding Malga Frattasecca alta (alpine dairy) and the «Stói de la Vegaia», a series of tunnels that were dug into the rock and used as surveillance points, shelters and ammunition supply points. Then, after a short walk you’ll reach the «Pian de la Vegaia», a panoramic point where you can still see remains of the war trenches. Return along the «Strada de la Vegaia» itinerary, that takes you to the Frattasecca parking area. A short detour will take you to a panoramic point of the Cascata Cadini (waterfall).
Easy: 1 hour 30 mins - Malga Frattasecca Bus stop
Between Malga Frattasecca (alpine dairy) and Fontanino (mountain hut), on the other side of the Noce River, you'll find a pleasant alternative to taking the Stelviobus or the paved road. An easy trail that alternates between uphill and downhill sections along which you can also visit the WWI Fort Barbadifior.
Moderate-Challenging: approx. 5 hours - Fontanino Bus stop
From the Fontanino mountain hut, passing through the area where the Malga Giumella and Malga Paludei (alpine dairies) are located, you can walk up to Val Piana all the way to the small yet lovely Lagostèl lake. Then go downwards along the trail that reaches the same forest road that you took upwards.
Val de la Mare, with an endless amount of excursions, can be reached by car, but only during the following timetable:
