Mezzana is situated in central Val di Sole and includes Marilleva 900 and Marilleva 1400, two resorts that represent the gate to the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta Val di Sole Val Rendena Skiarea for skiers. Nearby villages offer the possibility to practice cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoeing in the winter and hiking and rafting on the Noce River in the summer. The historic centre features steep narrow lanes and includes stately homes like the 16th-century Casa Maturi, the parish Church of S.S. Pietro and Paolo and the church of the Madonna di Caravaggio.
Under Mezzana are also Roncio, a charming alpine village built around the small church, and the hamlets of Ortisè (1477 metres) and Menas (1517 metres).
The origin of the place-name “Marilleva” is really bizarre. It supposedly came from the phrase “Marì Levà” (meaning “husband, get up!”), uttered by a wife who was tired of seeing her husband on the couch! For centuries, woodland/pasture activities were practised at Marilleva, like in the rest of the valley, and it was not until the ‘60s that a new life started to take root as a result of tourism development. In this self-sufficient city of country houses you can ski right to your front door!
Mezzana offers some of the most beautiful excursions in the valley. Mountain and nature lovers will have the opportunity to enjoy numerous spots, on both sides of the valley, reachable via safe and well-marked trails. Some of these include the two small lakes of Malghetto di Mezzana lodged between the peaks of the Presanella chain, the Peace Cross at the Piz del Mèzdì peak, the forests, and the farmsteads above Roncio, on the road that leads to the Mezzana peak (2845 m). Another sport you definitely must try out, and you can at Mezzana, is white-water rafting on the Noce River, named by the National Geographic as one of the top 10 rivers in the world for river sport activities ... the only one in Europe!
