Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike we suggest you:

• choose a route suitable for your level. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices
• prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the times of the lifts if your itinerary requires their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather. Therefore, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off
• leave information about your itinerary, approximate return time, and bring your mobile phone
• pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white painted marks on stones or trees
• book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop for food or lodging
• never leave waste in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or malgas you visit
• if you spot wild animals along the way, we invite you to stay on the path you are following, not approach too closely, don't shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them

Starting point

Directions

Starting from the locality Cave di Monclassico, you head in the direction of the malga on a long but easy forestry road that climbs with a steady and moderate gradient, crossing tall and dense forests of Norway spruce, silver fir, and beech. Once the path through the dense woods ends, suddenly you start to glimpse some peaks of the Brenta Dolomites mountain range from the tops of the spruces. A little further on, the forest thins and gives way to wide and green pastures where Malga Sadron is located. This malga is used for mountain pasturing, so you can observe the cows grazing the grass of the well-maintained meadows around and drinking water from the streams near the malga. Take a break to enjoy the view of the sunny side of the middle Val di Sole and the mountains rising from the Val di Rabbi. The return is planned via the same route.

You can reach Monclassico by the MALE' - FOLGARIDA - MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO public bus (download the outbound and return timetables).

How to get there

Follow the SS42 and at the roundabout take the third exit and travel on the SS239 to Monclassico.

To undertake a mountain hike it is always useful to:

• wear trekking boots suitable for rough, uneven, and wet terrain, long trousers, a hat, and sunglasses
• pack a waterproof jacket, a fleece shirt, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and a minimal change of clothes in your backpack
• bring a water bottle and snacks for energy drops (dried fruit, bars, or chocolate)
