Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

• choose a route suitable for your preparation. In case of doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
• prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the schedules of the lifts, if your itinerary includes their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, get informed well about the route and its conditions before departure
• leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time and carry your mobile phone
• pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs and strokes of red and white on stones or trees
• book in advance the alpine hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
• never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or alpine huts you will visit
• if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are walking, do not approach too closely, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash, to avoid it chasing them by instinct, scaring them

Directions

Once you leave the car in the locality of Pont a Cogolo, you head towards the Polveriera, an area so named due to the former presence of a large quantity of explosive powder used for the construction of the great dams in Val di Peio. It is an isolated area next to the Noce river not far from the hydroelectric power plant of Pont, the most beautiful power plant in Italy which we recommend you visit. From the Polveriera, you follow a comfortable dirt road that rises with a steady slope until you reach the Tablà parking lot, from where you take the SAT 140 bis path to reach the alpine hut.

Public transportation

You can reach Cogolo di Peio by the MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO line bus (download departure timetable and return timetable).

How to get there

Follow the SS42 and at the junction for the Val di Peio, turn right and stay on the SP87 until you reach the town of Cogolo.

Where to park

You can leave your car in the parking lot near the little church of Pegaia.

To face a mountain hike it is always useful to:

• wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular and wet ground, long trousers, a hat and sunglasses
• put in your backpack a waterproof jacket, a fleece sweater, hat and gloves, sunscreen, a minimum change of clothes
• bring a water bottle and snacks for energy dips (dried fruit, bars or chocolate)
