Suggestions

As it is a high-altitude trail, if you’re lucky, you may spot marmots, chamois, and golden eagles.

Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike, we suggest you:
  • choose a route that suits your level of preparation. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices.
  • plan your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you'll follow, and the operating hours of any cabe cars, if your itinerary involves using them. Remember that the accessibility of mountain trails is closely linked to current conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. Therefore, make sure to gather thorough information about the route and its conditions before setting off.
  • leave details of your itinerary, including your approximate return time, and carry your mobile phone.
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find along the way: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs, and red and white paint marks on stones or trees.
  • book in advance the mountain hut where you plan to stop for a meal or to spend the night.
  • never leave trash at high altitudes, and if possible, avoid leaving it at the mountain huts or alpine dairy farms you visit.
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, we encourage you to stay on the trail, avoid getting too close, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Ortisè

Directions

From the SS42, follow the signs to the village of Ortisè, part of the municipality of Mezzana. From there, follow the signs to Malga Stabli (1,814 m), where you can park. Then follow the forest road, which is also the SAT 121B trail, passing through wide, green meadows until you reach Malga Bronzolo at an altitude of 2,084 meters.

Leaving the malga behind, follow the SAT 121A trail towards Passo Valletta until you intersect with the SAT 121 trail. Continue uphill along high mountain pastures until you reach the final steeper section that leads to Passo Valletta (2,694 m). From here, you can admire the northern part of the Brenta Dolomites, including Cima Peller and Sasso Rosso, as well as the Adamello Presanella Group, particularly Croce della Pace and Cima Laste.

From the pass, you can already see the lakes on the Val di Rabbi side. Descending, you first encounter Lago Alto and then Lago Rotondo (2,427 m). The return is along the same route as the ascent.

Public transportation

You can reach Val di Sole by taking the train TRENTO - MALE' - MEZZANA (download the departure and return schedules) until you get to Malé.
From there, you can take the bus that first goes to Pellizzano and then to Ortisè (download the departure and return schedules).

How to get there

From Trento, follow the SP235 and then the SS43 towards Cles-Malé. In Mostizzolo, take the SS42. At the Pellizzano junction, turn right towards Ortisè.

Where to park

You can park your car a few meters from Malga Stabli. After passing the village of Ortisè, continue along the paved road.
To tackle a mountain hike, it’s always useful to:
  • Wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular, and wet terrain, long pants, a hat, and sunglasses.
  • Pack a waterproof jacket, a fleece, a hat, and gloves, sunscreen, and some extra clothing in your backpack.
  • Bring a water bottle and snacks for energy (dried fruit, bars, or chocolate).
  • Don’t forget your camera or phone to capture the views and scenes you like best. If you’d like, you can share them on social media using #visitvaldisole.
