Route starting from the charming Lago dei Caprioli leading to the Bivacco Malga Baselga, immersed in a wild environment in Val Baselga.

Val Baselga, which gives the name to the bivouac, is a very charming valley characterized by a small green plateau with granite peaks, crossed by a small stream. The route to Bivacco Malga Baselga starts right near Lago dei Caprioli and initially develops on an easy forest road before taking the trail, which is uneven and steep. The environment you encounter is worth the physical effort, characterized by larch woods, which in autumn turn warm in color, an undergrowth of rhododendron and Swiss pine plants. At 2,000 m, the landscape offers a view of the Vioz and Cevedale Peaks and the Val di Pejo. Further away, the Vegaia Peak with the mountain villages below, Ortisè and Menas. A few steps and you reach the bivouac in a small hollow that once offered shelter to the most daring hikers.

In autumn the forest, also composed of larches, colors itself in warm tones.

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. In case of doubts, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the operating times of the lifts if your itinerary includes using them. Remember that the feasibility of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before leaving
  • leave information about your itinerary, the approximate return time, and bring your mobile phone with you
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find along the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white marks on stones or trees
  • book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never leave waste in the high altitude areas and, if possible, avoid leaving it in the refuges or mountain huts you visit
  • if you see wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are following, not to get too close, not to shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them
