This area is isolated and very wild. It is less known compared to the trails frequented by large crowds. For example, the Lago dei Caprioli, a point of interest on this itinerary, is very popular and offers a pleasant walk in a less wild nature.
For those seeking adventure, the route to the Bivacco Malga Baselga begins near Lago dei Caprioli. The trail is not for everyone. It starts on a comfortable forest road and then follows a rough and steep path. The environment you encounter is worth the physical effort, characterized by larch forests that turn into warm colors in autumn, undergrowth of rhododendrons, and Swiss pine trees.
At 2,000 meters, the landscape offers views of Vioz and Cevedale peaks and the Val di Pejo. Further in the distance, you can see Vegaia Peak with the surrounding mountain villages, Ortisè and Menas.
A few more steps lead to the bivouac, nestled in a small hollow. Now renovated, it used to offer shelter to the more adventurous hikers.
For those who wish to continue the adventure, the bivouac can serve as a good starting point for ascents to Cima Baselga (2,775 m), Rocca di Nambron (2,741 m), and Cima di Val Gelada (2,675 m).
For the return, caution is needed as the trail has stones and may be wet, therefore slippery. Once you reach the end of the SAT 243 trail at the beginning of the forest road, turning right will take you along the Sentiero delle Cascate, which reaches Lago dei Caprioli.
Continue along the paved road towards Lago dei Caprioli. Just before reaching the lake, you will see a small bridge on the right. After crossing it, continue initially on a comfortable dirt road (for about 20 minutes), then follow the SAT 243 trail, which is uphill and at times challenging.
After about 2 hours, you will reach Val Baselga and its namesake bivouac (2,006 m).
On the return, once you reach the end of the SAT 243 trail at the beginning of the forest road, turn right to follow the Sentiero delle Cascate, which leads to Lago dei Caprioli.
