As you can imagine, the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information contained in this sheet may have changed. Before setting off, check the route status by contacting the valley tourist offices.
Starting from the Mezzana train station, you cycle along the Val di Sole cycle-pedestrian path until you reach the village of Ossana. From here, you take the new stretch of cycle-pedestrian path from Ossana to Vermiglio, reaching the picturesque Laghetti di San Leonardo. Going up along the Vermigliana Stream route, you first reach Malga Pecè and continuing uphill, you reach Passo del Tonale, the pass that divides Trentino from Lombardy. Then you climb to the San Bartolomeo Hospice, once used as a refuge for travelers in the area, and follow the opposite side from the outward journey, the right side of the Strino valley, until you reach Forte Mero. This ancient fort built at an altitude of 1827 meters was constructed between 1911 and 1913 as a defensive point during the Great War and is still in good condition today. From the fort, you descend back down the valley, passing above the village of Vermiglio and descending again to Ossana and then the Mezzana station.
You can reach the village of Mezzana by the TRENTO - MALÈ - MEZZANA train (download the outbound and return schedules).
Take the SS42 until you reach the village of Mezzana. After passing the Information Office, about 500 meters later, turn left onto Via per Marilleva and follow the road until you reach the Mezzana train station.
