Perfect itinerary to test the gravel product of Val di Sole, thanks to the presence, for the most part, of stretches of cycling on the comfortable pedestrian and cycling path alongside the Noce River. A pleasant route through small villages, dense forests, and sunny orchards, where splendid panoramic points over the lower Val di Sole will not be lacking.
The itinerary unfolds in the lower Val di Sole and will allow you to pedal on your gravel bike for a total of 49 kilometers, covering almost 1000 meters of elevation gain. This interesting loop, half on the valley's cycle-pedestrian path and half on dirt roads, will enable you to pass through characteristic villages like Ossana, where you can admire the ancient walls of San Michele Castle and sunny orchards where you can observe the juicy apples taking shape.

Safety information

To safely complete this itinerary, it is necessary to use a Gravel bike with tires of at least 38 mm width. Additionally, having good familiarity with the bike on steep terrain and a good mastery of using brakes during descents is important.

As you can imagine, the feasibility of routes in a mountainous environment is closely tied to current conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, the information provided in this guide may have changed. Before embarking on the journey, gather information about the trail's current status by contacting the local tourist offices in the valley.

Directions

Starting from the Mezzana train station, you ascend along the comfortable pedestrian and cycling path to the village of Ossana. We recommend taking your time to visit the majestic San Michele Castle, walking along its ancient walls, and admiring the splendid panorama that you can enjoy from up there. Once you've passed the castle, the adventurous descent begins: entertaining fast-flowing gravel sections alternate with passages through the characteristic villages of the valley. Upon reaching Daolasa, at the square where the Daolasa-Val Mastellina cable car departs, you head uphill towards Almazzago and then Costa Rotian, where beautiful views of the lower Val di Sole begin to open up. You then pedal until you reach the wild Val Meledrio, where, despite the challenging ascent, you can relax in the shade of the dense surrounding coniferous forest. A definite must-see is the visit to the Val Meledrio Ecomuseum, where you can discover how iron and lime were once worked and produced by the residents of Dimaro and Carciato.

From here, through forest roads, sometimes rough, you first reach the location of Molini in Malé, and then you arrive at Tovare in Terzolas, descending to the valley floor down to Cavizzana. You then return to the starting point via the pedestrian and cycling path, completing the loop.

Public transportation

You can reach the village of Mezzana by the train TRENTO - MALÈ - MEZZANA (download the departure and return schedules).

How to get there

Travel along SS42 until you reach the village of Mezzana. Once you've passed the Information Office, about 500 meters ahead, turn left onto Via per Marilleva and follow the road until you reach Mezzana train station.

Where to park

You can leave your car in the parking lot of Mezzana train station.
To tackle this itinerary, we recommend wearing a bicycle helmet and carrying a backpack with a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, and a water bottle. It's also important to bring a repair kit: inner tube, pump, tire patches, glue, and a set of tools for quick repairs.
