ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Every year between September and October in the Stelvio National Park you can experience the romantic nature of the stag. Experience with us one of the most compelling of animals in the wilderness.

The bellow of the stag is a courtship ritual that male deer do to drive away rival males. This experience will also give you the opportunity to capture the sounds, the colors and scents of the forest. By taking part in these excursions with Park's experts it is possible to watch the deer from afar without creating any disturbance.

Medium difficulty excursion in mid-altitude areas where it is easier to spot and hear the stag bellowing even during the day. The Park experts will show you the numerous traces and tell you the habits of this fascinating animal. If you are lucky, you may even spot eagles. Packed lunch. Transfer by own vehicle.

WHAT WE SUPPLY

An infrared thermal camera will be provided by the Park. A headlamp is also necessary. Please bring one with you. If you don’t have one, you can borrow one from the Park that will be disinfected before use.
The price also includes dinner in a local mountain hut, where you will have a chance to talk about wildlife with a Stelvio National Park expert.

SUITABLE FOR

The activity is suitable for nature lovers. Suitable for adults and families with children preferably age 10+ .

Difference in elevation:  from 100 to 300 meters, the itinerary is approximately 3 to 5 km long.

EQUIPMENT/CLOTHING

Hiking boots, jacket, backpack, waterproof wind jacket, comfortable and warm clothing. 

MEETING POINT
  • Excursion in Val di Peio on Sunday  September 22: meeting point at the Park Visitors Center in Cogolo.
    At the junction to Val di Peio, take the SP 87 provincial road to Cogolo di Peio. At the entrance to the town follow via Roma and continue straight for approx. 50 meters until you reach n. 65
  • Excursion in Val di Rabbi on Sunday September 29 and October 6: meeting point at the Rabbi Park Info Point in Rabbi Fonti. Rabbi Fonti along the SP 86 provincial road, just before the Spa center.

You will need to drive your own vehicle from the meeting point to the starting point of the excursion.

In the event of severe weather, the experience will be canceled and rescheduled or refunded.
