A route that with some uphill sections leads into the wild Val Meledrio, developing through its dense woods along the entire length of the homonymous stream until reaching the Pison waterfall.
This medium difficulty route allows you to cycle through the cool woods of Val Meledrio, a valley that fascinates with its wild nature characterized by dense fir and conifer forests which will offer you a refreshing break during hot summer days. The itinerary passes near the Val Meledrio Ecomuseum, where you can observe a still functioning Venetian sawmill, an old lime kiln once used for lime production, and a hydroelectric power plant, an ancient hammer powered by the force of the Meledrio stream waters, until reaching the clear and sparkling waters of the Pison Waterfalls.
The route starts at the Church of San Lorenzo in Dimaro, where there is a convenient and large parking area with reserved spaces. From the parking, you get on your bike and pedal towards the Carciato hamlet, from which a dirt road gradually climbs towards the wild Val Meledrio. If you have time, don't miss the chance to visit the Val Meledrio Ecomuseum, where you can admire a still operating Venetian sawmill, an ancient forge where iron was worked, and a lime kiln once used for lime processing.
Right in the Fosinace area, where there are industrial archaeology artifacts, you cross the Meledrio stream (over a bridge wide enough also for handbikes) to reach the road called “degli Imperatori”, which was historically used to reach the ex Ospizio Mondifrà uphill.
Upon reaching the hydroelectric power plant harnessing the roaring waters of the Meledrio stream to produce energy, the slope becomes significant. In this part of the route, those riding a handbike might need a little help due to the slippery surface. The path then develops into a small loop on a trail carved into the rock overlooking the gorge of the Meledrio stream (maximum safety guaranteed by a wooden protective barrier) and leads to the bridge over the Pison waterfall.
The route, reaching its highest point at 1,215m above sea level near the lower Malga Presson, crosses to the opposite side of the valley along a forest track at the foot of Dosso S. Brigida. Part of the uphill route is retraced going down to the State Road, which is crossed via a convenient underpass. You return to the starting point on a comfortable path crossing the village of Dimaro until you reach the starting point again.
You can reach the village of Dimaro by the TRENTO - MALE' - MEZZANA train (download schedules for going and return) or via the convenient Smartbus service on which you can also transport your bicycle. You can also reach Dimaro with line buses (download schedules for going and return).
Follow the SS42 and at Dimaro roundabout take the second exit. Continue on SS239 and turn left onto Via alla Chiesa at the intersection.
You can park your car near the Church of San Lorenzo in Dimaro, where you can also find parking reserved for disabled people.
Depending on your skills and fitness level, this route can be done on both e-tandem and e-handbike.
