The first part of this route runs along a forest road that runs along the valley floor of Val Meledrio. The second part develops on a path that branches off from Val Meledrio and allows access to the pasture of the former Malga Scale, while the third allows, again by path, to climb the beautiful, wild and narrow Valle del Vento which gives access to the gentler slopes of the Prà Castron pass.

The great effort is richly rewarded by the beautiful views enjoyed in the upper part.

Starting point

Folgarida - Belvedere (1344m)

Directions

Descend along the dirt road towards the locality of Ronzola (1299m) and pass it.

Beyond the above-mentioned locality, there is a fork to the left that descends towards the valley floor. Turn left and descend until you reach the underlying forest road.

Upon reaching the road, continue uphill to the right until you reach a large square with an information board.

Turn left and cross the bridge over the Meledrio stream (Pont del Pastrin – 1214m).

Beyond the bridge, take the right road that immediately climbs along the mountain slope making a hairpin turn to the left and then a long traverse through the forest.

Upon reaching the sign of the climbing gym, the road descends and shortly after there is a steep path (sign) that climbs to the right (path 329 b).

With a steep path, you connect with path 329 which rises from the left and continue to the right towards the south also passing the fork with path 365b that leads to the malga di Carciato.

Still in the forest, the path climbs, now with reduced slope, above some rock ledges and reaches, after a last flat stretch, the meadow of Malga Scale (1564m).

The path, after Malga Scale, remains on the left side of the valley and allows overcoming some rock ledges that block the passage. Above the rock ledges, path 329 enters the narrow Valle del Vento with steeper slopes than those faced so far. During the passage between the rock ledges, you pass near the spring called: acqua dei Tartari.

A short section, in a small gully, with a steel cable is mandatory and, once the steep section is passed, where the valley bends more sharply to the right, the path leaves the valley floor and climbs the left limestone slabs heading towards Sasso Rosso.

You reach the junction for the Costanzi bivouac (sign) now visible on the left towards north, northwest.

Continue uphill to the right and overcome the last meters of elevation gain, on a gentler slope until you reach the obvious Prà Castron pass located between the summit of Sasso Rosso, which towers over the path, and the Benon peak.

The return from Prà Castron pass is along the ascent route.

How to get there

Arrive at Folgarida in Val di Sole and park, on the left going up, downstream of Belvedere (large parking area with hotel along the last straight road leaving the village). Park at the entrance of the dirt road that descends into Val Meledrio passing through the locality of Ronzola (Sat signs).
