One of the best mountain bike tours in Val di Sole, climbing on a secondary paved road, climbing on a dirt road and 10 km on single track or dirt road downhill. Spectacular view of the Ortles Cevedale and Adamello Presanella mountain groups.
Very panoramic itinerary in the middle and upper Val di Sole with magnificent views of the valley and breathtaking views of the imposing surrounding mountains (Brenta group and Presanella, Vioz peak and Cevedale). Recommended route for those who already have good training and technical skills for the long climb and some technical sections downhill.
The itinerary begins at the intersection of S.S. 42 with provincial road no. 140 to Termenàgo-Ortisé-Menàs. The intersection is easily reachable from the nearby towns of Mezzana or Pellizzano via the cycle path until you reach a deviation that leads towards the Noce river, which is crossed (Pont de le Caore) to reach the intersection.
Then take provincial road no. 140. It is an asphalted, little trafficked road, which, among vast terraces of mostly uncultivated meadows, climbs steeply through the villages of Termenàgo (passing next to the old bell tower of 1322 and then at the foot of the staircase leading to the "new" church of 1850) and Castèllo (with the typical merloned bell tower of 1500) reaching Ortisé (1,477 m). Here a refreshment at the fountain near the Church is a must after the tiring stretch of road (notice the charming monument to the famous mycologist D. Giacomo Bresadola). The place offers a spectacular view over Val di Sole and the villages of the valley floor, over Passo Tonale, the mountains of the distant Brenta group and the imposing Presanella Group.
Following the signs to Alpe Pozze, the road passes the village becoming unpaved and entering the larch forest next to typical alpine buildings and then continues through the forest becoming more comfortable. Always keeping to the left, in the direction of Baita Pozze, you exit onto the wide pastures of the mountain huts. Here the road, making wide hairpin bends in the vastness of the pastures and the surrounding environment, reaches Baita Pozze (shelter); after about 600 meters you reach a hairpin bend and on the left, a path (pay attention) gradually descends towards the ridge of Cima Vegaia. The somewhat stepped path due to livestock passage leads us quickly to the little lake of Cellentino (2,069 m) visible only in the early summer months. The view of the glaciers and the highest peaks of Vioz (3,645 m) and Presanella (3,556 m) is magnificent. Now the path, skirting the lake in a flat way, leads us towards Val di Peio to the recently renovated Malga Campo, hosting a brand-new agriturism. Then set off again following the steep SAT 132 path that intersects with the forestry road descending to the village of Cellentino (1,264 m). From here there is a unique view of Comasine and the solitary chapel of S. Lucia. Follow the Provincial Road to Strombiano; enter and cross the village; then follow the signs to Cusiano (home of Quirino Bezzi, historian and mountain friend) which lead, along the old unpaved connecting road, to the intersection between State Road no. 42 and the Provincial Road of Val di Peio. Continue on the State Road to Cusiano and shortly return to Pellizzano (the Gothic-Renaissance Church of S. Maria is very beautiful).
Possibility to use the Trentino Trasporti bus up to Ortisè.
