An easy and suitable itinerary for everyone that will take you to explore country roads, cycling through the apple orchards of Val di Sole.
The Malé Tour is one of the most popular cycling routes in Val di Sole, so much so that it is often used as an alternative to the cycle path to complete a loop tour between Malé and Mostizzolo, at the border with Val di Non. It mostly runs on paved roads, following little-traveled secondary roads, used only by residents and farmers to access the apple orchards and their crops.
The view from the valley is remarkable as you descend from Malé towards Mostizzolo through the small hamlets of the municipality of Caldes, in the lower Val di Sole. In short, a true immersion into the agricultural world of Solandro that will take you to the border with Val di Non.
Pay attention when crossing the SS42 Tonale road at Mostizzolo: it is recommended to follow the road markings and cross at the pedestrian crossings.
Other tips:
- Plan the tour according to your abilities and the weather forecast;
- Go slow, be cautious, enjoy the scenery and the silence;
- Adapt your riding style to the terrain characteristics and conditions;
- Rely on bike guides;
- Wear appropriate clothing and equipment;
- Respect the environment and the locals, and take your trash with you;
- Respect the trail and avoid riding on paths forbidden to bikes. Stop if someone needs help;
- Be careful on shared bike and pedestrian paths, also frequented by hikers;
- If you meet pedestrians, notify them of your approach and reduce your speed.
From the village of Malé, taking Via degli Alpini, you enter a beautiful gently sloping dirt road through the woods. The fun route continues to the Birreria area, at the entrance of Val di Rabbi. You cross the road to Val di Rabbi and take a dirt road that passes through the village of Magras, reaching the Capuchin Friars' convent, a historic residence in a panoramic, sunny position immersed in the tranquility of a large park. From here, you head towards the center of the village of Terzolas. Near the "Torraccia" Palace (once a noble residence of the Malanotti family, now the Town Hall – notable for the harmony of its corner towers; inside, remnants of frescoes), you continue left with a slight ascent towards the church built in the early 1800s. From here, you continue straight through the ancient village and exit into vast orchards heading towards Samoclevo.
Arriving in the village, there’s a notable ascent (with a fountain on the left), and you proceed towards the ancient Rocca, once a castle of the Caldes family and later of the counts Thunn (a legend speaks of the tunnel connecting their noble residences), located above the village. At the end of the paved stretch, turn right, and between newly built villas, you’ll find a comfortable winding paved agricultural road that leads to the village of San Giacomo. Until a few centuries ago, it was called Solasna; it has a Gothic church of sunny beauty. You pass through it under narrow porticos, exiting on the opposite side where the road becomes a dirt path that heads decisively toward the village of Cis, which hosted a Rhaetian fortification. Keeping to the right, the road ends, and a beautiful technical but not difficult trail begins in the pine forest. After passing a characteristic little chapel and some rock barriers, you reach the agricultural road coming from the village of Cis, which passes through the orchards. You arrive in the village and then descend toward the Mostizzolo Bridge, always an obligatory passage between Anaunia and Val di Sole, and therefore fortified and well defended in times of war; you cross it, and from there, to the right, the cycle path begins, gradually bringing you back to Caldes, Terzolas, Croviana, and Malé.
From Trento, you can reach Val di Sole up to the Malé station using the electric railway "Trento - Malé - Mezzana," which allows the transport of bikes on the carriages. For more information, visit: Trentino Trasporti - https://www.trentinotrasporti.it/viaggia-con-noi/ferrovia.
From Bergamo-Brescia: follow the SS42 Tonale road.
From Bologna-Verona and Brenner: Take the A22 Brenner highway, exiting at Trento Nord for those coming from the south, and San Michele all'Adige for those coming from the north. Continue towards Cles, Val di Non, along the SS43, and after passing Cles, take the SS42 towards Passo del Tonale, Val di Sole.
It is recommended to park at the free parking area located near the Malé Cemetery or at the adjacent public swimming pool.
We recommend always carrying a repair kit: inner tube, pump, mastic, patches and an emergency repair kit.
