An easy hike that starts just above the village of Bolentina follows narrow roads up to the charming Malga di Bolentina Bassa and then Mas de la Cros, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire valley.

A ski mountaineering ascent with approximately 400 meters of elevation gain starting from the village of Bolentina and leading to the location of Mas de Mez. The sunny and moderately challenging route allows reaching the Malga Bassa di Bolentina and then the recently constructed Mas de la Cros. From here, you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the nearby Val di Non, Val di Rabbi, and the underlying Val di Sole.

Before or after skiing, we recommend taking a leisurely stroll in the small village of Bolentina, where you can experience the traditions and genuine rural spirit of its inhabitants.

Safety information

The stability of the snowpack is subject to sudden and unpredictable changes. Always consult the avalanche bulletin (on www.meteotrentino.it or other available websites for your area) and gather thorough information about the current weather conditions from the Alpine Guides Office of Val di Sole. The GPX tracks are purely indicative of the route but should not be followed without a prior evaluation of the slopes at the time of the excursion.

From January 1st, 2022, it is mandatory for ALL skiers to have insurance coverage that includes liability for damages or injuries caused to third parties. The revision of the mountain safety code requires all minors to wear helmets and prohibits skiers from consuming alcoholic beverages.

Directions

Arriving by car in Bolentina, you pass through the village towards Mas de Mez. At the first hairpin turn, you park in a small parking area beside the road. From here, with skis on your feet, you take the narrow road on the right towards Malga Bassa. Passing through stretches of dense larch forests covered in snow and wide sunny spaces where you can enjoy the gentle warmth of the winter sun, you first reach Malga Bassa di Bolentina and then the recently built Mas de la Cros. The descent is planned along the area of Piazza Merendaia and then along the road that leads back to the starting point.

You can reach Bolentina by the Trentino Trasporti bus line MALÈ - BOLENTINA (download the departure and return schedules).

How to get there

Drive along SS42 and at the junction for the Terzolas town center, take a right and follow the road until you reach the roundabout for Val di Rabbi. At the roundabout, take the third exit and after passing through the arch of Malè village, turn right and follow the road to Bolentina.

Where to park

You can leave your car in the parking area after the first hairpin turn on the road towards Mas de Mez.

For all ski mountaineering excursions, appropriate clothing is recommended even in case of sudden temperature drops. It is necessary to wear suitable technical clothing that does not get wet when in contact with snow (such as Gore-Tex), gloves, hat, sunglasses, and protective sunscreen.

It is mandatory to have with you the self-rescue kit composed of Avalanche Transceiver-Shovel-Probe (which can be rented if necessary, see the shops where it is available here). It is also recommended to wear a helmet (for minors, wearing a helmet is mandatory) or other active protection systems (e.g., backpacks with ABS-Airbag systems).

In case of hard or icy snow, the use of crampons is recommended.
