A thematic circular route that will immerse us in the authentic rural civilization of the past, discovering fascinating historical and cultural testimonies.
This simple route takes us to discover the symbols of the rural civilization of the Peio and Rabbi valleys: the farmsteads, an authentic expression of mountain rural architecture, and the Casél di Somrabbi, an old dairy that is now a thematic museum exhibiting the tools historically used for transforming milk into cheese. The Casèl di Somrabbi is a priceless testimony to the history and culture of the Val di Rabbi. It was an important reference point for a small community, a workplace expressing the social and economic organization of alpine civilization. It was restored thanks to the recovery intervention carried out by the Stelvio National Park, performed respecting the construction techniques typical of local tradition. It is now a museum where the tools historically used to transform milk into cheese are exhibited.

Starting point
Rabbi Fonti
Directions
The route starts from the Rabbi Fonti Visitor Center and goes up the old mule track that leads to Piazzola, initially crossing a steep wooded slope and the meadows below the small settlements on the left side of the Val di Rabbi. Upon reaching the area of Cósi, you cross the provincial road and then continue through the characteristic hamlets of Masét and Serra. Then you ascend to the area of Arét, passing through meadows where numerous farmsteads can be closely observed. You descend a stretch of forest road and then turn along the path leading to Somrabbi, where there is the homonymous dairy renovated by the Park’s craftsmen and set up as a thematic museum related to traditional dairy processing. The circular route continues on the asphalt road to the locality of Cotorni where, after a short stretch of dirt road, you take the mule track that leads to Plan and connects to the valley floor road, to return again to the Visitor Center.
The simplicity that characterizes this route makes the path accessible to anyone, without the need for technical equipment. However, trekking shoes or boots and possibly trekking poles are recommended.
