Continuing the route, you can also take a break to visit the fascinating Pejo 1914-1918 Museum The War at the Door, dedicated to the Great War at Peio Paese. Here you can truly empathize with the daily life of soldiers on the Trentino front mountains.
The rules for mountain walks:
The easy walk starts from Peio Fonti along Via dei Cavai, where you turn left onto a path that in 15 minutes leads to the Wildlife Area: a protected area where you can admire the majestic ungulates in their daily life, understanding their main behaviors. Treat yourself to a visit and discover the curious work of the Stelvio National Park operators. After the possible visit, the route continues along a path that runs alongside the outer fence of the Wildlife Area, passing in front of a farm. With gentle ups and downs you then reach the beginning of Peio Paese, the village known for being the highest in Trentino, thanks to its strategic position overlooking the entire Val di Peio from almost 1,600 meters above sea level. Upon reaching the charming village built on the San Rocco hill, you cross the SP87 road and take an uphill road that leads to the town center with the possibility to visit the Pejo 1914-1918 Museum - The War at the Door, located next to the parish church. The museum collects and tells the true experience of soldiers at the front, reconstructing an important part of the history not only of the small Pejo community but of all soldiers on the Great War front. Passing the building that houses the museum, where also the last rotating dairy in Trentino is located, you continue along Via Punta San Matteo towards loc. Casanove, Baita 3 Larici, and return to Peio Fonti completing a circular route.
You can reach Peio Fonti by the Trentino Trasporti bus line MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download outbound and return timetables).
Follow the SS42 until the junction for the Val di Peio (on your right if you come from Malé). Turn and enter on SP87 and continue for about ten kilometers to Peio Fonti.
