A very easy walk that from Peio Paese, the highest village in Trentino, leads to the Capercaillie Forest, where it will be possible to discover the life habits of wild birds and their techniques of adaptation to the surrounding environment.
This itinerary leads with a simple walk to the "Capercaillie Forest", an interesting educational path through which you can discover the curious life of alpine galliform birds, such as the capercaillie. Through a birdwatching-style setup, you can observe these animals in their natural habitat, reconstructed through the use of sounds, images, and reproductions of habitats.
The easy route leading to the Capercaillie Forest starting from Peio Paese is comfortably accessible to people with visual disabilities. The route can also be suitable for people with motor disabilities in a wheelchair, provided the wheelchair is suitable for a type of natural surface.
Rules for mountain walks:
Starting from the Peio Paese parking lot (1584 m), go up beside the shrine along the path that leads to the playground and take the panoramic dirt road that leads to Croce dei Bagni (1680 m). At this point, after going up a short stretch to the left, follow the signs for Malga Talé (1723 m), reachable in about 45 minutes of easy walking. The malga has been converted by the Stelvio National Park into a didactic and educational center dedicated to tetraonids, that is alpine galliform birds among which the capercaillie is probably the best known. The center, called "The Capercaillie Forest", is laid out along a path recently equipped with several wooden installations and panels that tell some aspects of the life of the forest birds and it was built with a birdwatching-style setup, where the visitor becomes the protagonist of this experiential journey to discover the habits of these charming animals.
Recommended route for visually impaired people
The suggested route for visually impaired people is the same as described above, starting from Peio Paese and arriving at the Capercaillie Forest. However, the park dedicated to the galliforms is not entirely accessible due to some installations being hardly visible or inaccessible to people with disabilities. The route can also be done with a wheelchair provided that the wheelchair is suitable for a rough natural surface (off-road). The Malga Talé near the wooden installations does not have an accessible bathroom.
Difficulty level: easy - about 300 meters of ascent and approximately 7 km in length
Surface type: the itinerary develops entirely on a dirt road with a fairly wide natural surface.
Network coverage: yes
