The route runs through snowy woods and meadows at the foot of the fascinating Valorz waterfalls.

Easy snowshoeing that develops along trails marked with specific signage showing a snowshoe.
This itinerary allows you to see up close the characteristic buildings of our farming past, the masi, and since it takes place in a mostly shaded environment, it keeps the snow cover until late winter. Along the route, you will see some installations depicting forest animals, made from natural materials by the artist Maurizio Misseroni and accompanied by verses of the poet Teresa Girardi.
If you happen to meet any 'real' animals, please do not run towards them or shout.
Enjoy the silence and the severity that this forest impresses on the mind.

Suggestions

After parking the car, before starting the hike, take a photo of the Val Valorz, with its typical alpine masi and, in the distance, its frozen waterfalls.

Safety information

For snow hiking activities, follow these guidelines:

  • get well informed about the route and its conditions before you leave. You can do this by contacting the nearest tourist information office;
  • the day before the hike, check the weather and the level of avalanche danger;
  • if you plan to reach a mountain hut or refuge, make sure they are open and if you intend to stop for food or overnight, call them in advance to book;
  • before leaving, if you don't feel well, postpone the outing until you feel better;
  • never leave waste in high altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the huts or shelters you visit;
  • if you notice wild animals on the path, we invite you not to approach them, not to shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from chasing or scaring them out of instinct.

Starting point

Near the Tourist Information Office in San Bernardo di Rabbi

Directions

San Bernardo (1,093 m) - passage between the masi of Valorz - Baito Forestale (1,364 m) - return along the right bank of the Valorz river

From the parking lot near the Tourist Office in San Bernardo, holding the snowshoes in your hand, go down the road and cross the Rabbies stream.
Pass two stables and an old farmhouse until you reach a small bridge over the Valorz river, near which you can put on the snowshoes.

Climb along the path among the characteristic masi, witnesses of the farming past of Val di Rabbi and, after crossing a wooden bridge, enter the forest of the Valorz valley until you reach the Baito Forestale (1,364 m), located in front of the well-known frozen Valorz waterfalls, popular among ice climbing enthusiasts.

Once you reach this panoramic point, retrace the route back to the parking lot at an altitude of 1,246 m. Cross the bridge over the Valorz river and continue along the right bank to return to the starting point.
