Safety information

For snow hiking activities follow these guidelines:

• Be well informed about the route and its conditions before you go. You can do this by contacting your nearest tourist information office;
• the day before the hike consult the weather forecast and avalanche bulletin;
• if you plan to reach an alpine hut or refuge, make sure they are open and, if you plan to stop for food or sleep, call them in advance to make reservations;
• before you leave, if you don't feel well, postpone going out until you feel better;
• never leave garbage at high altitudes and,if possible, avoid leaving it at the huts or pastures you will visit;
• if you spot wild animals along the trail, please do not approach them, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash, lest by instinct it chase them, scaring them away.

Directions

Challenging hike starting from Residence Artuik, from where you take the SAT 202 trail, which, uphill, leads to "Ponte Alto." From here continue following the signs to the small lakes. Once you reach the second junction, you climb up a steep path until you reach the Malghetto Lakes.

The return trip is back along the same route.

You can reach Marilleva 1400 by the Trentino Trasporti bus line MALE' - MEZZANA - MARILLEVA 1400 (download the round-trip schedule).

How to get there

Stay on the SS42 and, at the village of Mezzana, take the second exit at the traffic circle and follow the road until you reach Marilleva 1400.

Where to park

In Marilleva 1400 c/o Residence Artuik.

Here is a list of items you should have with you when undertaking snowshoeing:

• waterproof boots;
• snowshoes and trekking poles. To rent them, choose the rental closest to you;
• waterproof, comfortable and warm winter clothing;
• face mask, as required by COVID-19 safety protocol;
• beanie, gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen;
• backpack with a snack and thermos of hot drink;
• MANDATORY avalanche self-rescue kit 'where, due to nivometeorological conditions, there is a risk of avalanches' (Art.26 Legislative Decree Feb. 28, 2021 No. 40). The kit consists of Artva, shovel and probe, and before you embark on any excursion, make sure you know how to use it. You can possibly rent it in stores that offer this service;
