A circular route entirely immersed in the Stelvio National Park that first leads to Malga Stablaz Alta, then to Bait Forborida, and closes the route passing by Malga Stablasolo.

This trekking will allow you to discover some of the less known corners of Val di Rabbi. Starting from the Coler parking lot, you will head towards Malga Stablaz Alta, passing first through Malga Bassa. Here, take a short break and walk over the wooden bridges to better admire the Val Maleda Waterfalls. Then continue until you reach the high malga, where you can enjoy the spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, then proceed to reach Bait Forborida at 2,131 meters altitude to close the loop arriving at Malga Stablasolo, where you absolutely have to stop for a good homemade dessert before returning to the starting point.

Suggestions

During the summer months, the StelvioBus service is active, so you will have to leave the car at the Plazze dei Forni parking lot and proceed with the shuttle bus to the Coler parking lot or Malga Maleda Bassa.

Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your level of preparation. In case of doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the operating times of the lifts, if your itinerary requires their use. Remember that the practicability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, be well informed about the route and its condition before setting off
  • leave information about your itinerary, about your approximate return time, and bring your mobile phone
  • pay attention to the signs and signposts you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs, and red and white marks on stones or trees
  • book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never leave waste at high altitudes and, if possible, avoid leaving waste at the refuges or malgas you visit
  • if along the route you see wild animals, we invite you to remain on the path you are walking, do not approach too closely, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing or scaring them

Directions

Leaving the car at the Coler parking lot (during the summer periods, it is possible to reach the parking lot with the shuttle bus StelvioBus), pass the Fontanin Refuge (1388 m) and take the trail on the left called “Wildlife Path” until you reach Malga Stablaz Maleda Bassa (1731 m) where the waterfall will welcome you with its roar. Take a short break to admire its water rushing between the stones and then take the dirt road for a few minutes until you reach the left junction of the “Via delle Malghe” that indicates the signpost for Bait Forborida. After the steep section, you will reach the pastures of Malga Stablaz Maleda Alta and the path becomes gentler. Crossing some streams after about half an hour of walking, you can spot Bait Forborida at an altitude of 2129 m. Here you can enjoy a spectacular view of the entire Val di Rabbi and the peaks of Monte Sole, Cima Verdignana, Monte Vilar, and Croz della Luna. Then continue for a short stretch until you find the Stelvio National Park signpost that will give you directions to walk down towards Malga Stablasolo (1543 m). Here you absolutely have to stop for a slice of cake or, if you haven't eaten, for an excellent dish prepared with local products. To return to the starting point, simply follow the downhill hairpin bends from the malga on the dirt road that will take you back to the parking lot.

Public transportation

You can reach Rabbi Bagni with the MALÈ - RABBI BAGNI - SOMRABBI line bus (download the outbound and return timetables). From the Plan parking lot, take the Stelviobus Rabbi shuttle bus that will take you to the Coler parking lot where the hike begins.

How to get there

Take the SS42 and once you reach the town of Terzolas, exit on the right. Upon reaching the roundabout, take the second exit towards Val di Rabbi and follow provincial road 86, and at the junction for the village of Piazzola, turn along the road until you reach the Coler parking lot.

Where to park

You can park the car at the Coler parking lot, while in the summer months you must leave the car at the Al Plan parking lot to then reach the Coler parking lot with the shuttle bus StelvioBus up to the Coler parking lot.

To face a mountain hike it is always useful to:

  • wear trekking boots suitable for uneven, irregular, and wet ground, long pants, a hat, and sunglasses
  • put a waterproof jacket, a fleece sweater, hat and gloves, sunscreen, and minimum spare clothing in your backpack
  • bring a water bottle and snacks for energy drops (dried fruit, bars, or chocolate)
  • don’t forget a camera or phone to capture the panoramas and views you like best. If you want, you can share them on social media using #visitvaldisole and #valdisolevibes
