Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices;
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the operating hours of the lifts, if your itinerary involves their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off;
  • leave information about your itinerary, your approximate return time, and bring your mobile phone;
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees;
  • raise the alarm by calling 112 in case of an accident;
  • book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep;
  • never abandon waste in high altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or mountain huts you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the way, please stay on the path you are following, do not get too close, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them.

Directions

After leaving your car in Fontanon, where you have parked, continue on foot along the dirt road towards Passo Cercen.
The route runs entirely on a forest road without changes of direction or forks: follow it for about 3 kilometers along the valley up to the last hairpin bend, which is just a few hundred meters from the mountain hut.

Along the way, you will immerse yourself in the large high-altitude pasture of this mountain hut, interrupted here and there by a sparse larch forest, and your gaze will naturally and curiously linger on the peaks all around, rising towards the sky. Beside you, always present, flows a stream, fed by numerous small brooks crossing your path.
The destination of this journey will be a splendid mountain hut, located on a panoramic plateau overlooking the peaks of the beautiful Val Cercen.

To return to the parking lot, retrace your steps along the route you came from.
