A unique educational-naturalistic itinerary: 700 stairs to discover more than twenty enormous and magnificent centuries-old larches

This marked thematic itinerary tells us about a wonderful environment, where we can find an incredible concentration of enormous and majestic larches. They grow at 1900 m. (a.s.l.) on a steep ground exposed to the weathering, which determines their strange and unexpected forms. These larches grow among the stones of a rubble pile in one of the most suggestive part of the Park. To have a closer look at these 23 magnificent green giants, you should climb the path composed by 700 stairs, made of stones which were put close one to the other. On the path going to the starting point of this itinerary, you will pass next to the wonderful waterfalls Cascate di Saènt.

This itinerary goes on easy roads. No special precautions are required more than the basic safety standards for mountain walks and hikes.

Starting point

Loc. Pra di Saènt

Directions

Leave your car in the Còler parking area and take the road on the orographic right side to the mountain farm Malga Stablasolo (trail CAI SAT n.106). After the farm, continue for a short distance, then you can choose either to stay on trail n.106 to reach the mountain farm Malga Prà di Saènt or take the trail to the waterfalls Cascate di Saènt which, after the waterfalls, joins the previous one.

At the mountain farm Malga Prà di Saènt starts the real itinerary, which takes us to discover these centuries-old larches. They all have their own history and a name that tells us something about it.

How to get there

You can reach this place from Malé taking the road on the bottom of the valley Val di Rabbi. Around 1 km. after the village San Bernardo, go to the hamlets Piazzola e Somrabbi, then continue for 2 more km. to reach the place Còler, where you can leave your car in the parking.

During the summer you can leave your car at the hamlet Rabbi Fonti and reach the place Còler with the sustainable mobility service called Stelviobus.
