Keeping you company on this relaxing walk will be the crashing of the waters in the River Rabbies as it flows down from Val di Rabbi to join the River Noce.
A pleasant walk through the woods that from Malè leads to Birreria, on the road for Val di Rabbi and on the return passes by the pretty little village of Pondasio where still today (booking required) the Marinelli Forge (Fucina Marinelli) is in working order, powered by the force of the water.

This route is part of the Uno Di Un Milione project. Here, through the QR codes on the original water bottles and the dedicated app, you can take part in an experience of art, relation and participation that will help you explore the water running through Val di Sole, discovering how the community in this valley has creatively imagined its own vision of protection for the environment and future generations. Safety information

The 10 rules for walking in the mountains:
  1. the feasibility of routes in a mountain environment is closely linked to the contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, changes in the environment and the weather conditions. For this reason, make sure you are well informed about the route and conditions before setting out. You can do this by contacting your nearest Information Office;
  2. if you expect to reach a malga or mountain refuge, make sure that this will be open and, if you intend to stop to eat or sleep, call beforehand to book;
  3. leave information about your route with someone and always take your mobile phone with you;
  4. in the event of an accident, call 112;
  5. never leave litter in the mountains and, if possible, avoid leaving your rubbish at mountain refuges or malgas that you visit;
  6. if you spot wild animals along the way, we invite you to stay on the path, not go too near, not shout and to keep your dog on a lead, to stop it instinctively chasing and scaring the animal;
  7. face masks must also be worn in the mountains;
  8. keep a distance of at least 2 metres between you and other people;
  9. avoid sharing personal effects, instruments and water bottles with other people;
  10. take hand sanitiser with you and frequently disinfect your hands and surfaces;

Directions

From Malè, just after the Museum of the Val di Sole Civilisation (Museo della Civiltà solandra), close to the characteristic stone arch on the road leading out of the town to Trento, go up and left along S.P. 141 provincial road towards Bolentina and Montes. At the first hairpin, pick up the unmade track on the right and follow this for about 100 metres. Continue to the left, slightly downhill, along the wide level road that winds into Val di Rabbi. Follow this, enjoying the shade and rushing noise of the River Rabbies until you come to Birreria with the bridge over the River Rabbies. Once over the bridge, continue to the right for 50 metres, cross the provincial road and pick up the path on the left that, in just a few minutes, will bring you to Molino Ruatti, the characteristic mill powered by the current in the River Rabbies and in the past used to turn grain into flour. We recommend a visit here to learn about the food culture in this area and methods for processing grains. From here you can return along the path towards Malè, passing through pretty littly Pondasio, where, subject to prior booking you can see the Marinelli forge (Fucina Marinelli) working, again powered by the force of the water from Val di Rabbi.

Alternatively, from Molino Ruatti, you can continue on a level loop that leads to Pozze through the tiny villages in Pracorno. From here the return route takes you along the pedestrian and cycle path alongside the River Rabbies, bringing you back to the unmade track that from Birreria leads to Malè again (about 3 and a half hours for the return trip to Malè - Località Pozze).

Public transportation

You can reach the town of Malè with the TRENTO-MALÈ-MARILLEVA train (download train times out and back). The train stop is about 5 minutes on foot from the start of this route.

How to get there

Take the S.S. 42 state road and, at the exit for Malè, turn right (if you are coming from Trento) and follow the road into the town centre.

Where to park

You can park in the vicinity of the centre.
For this walk we recommend hiking boots and a cap, with a waterproof jacket, sun cream and a bottle of water in your backpack.Don’t forget your camera or mobile phone for immortalising the views and favourite sights. If you like, you can then share them on social media at the hashtags #visitvaldisole and #spazioaltuotempo.
