Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Alpine Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check weather forecasts, the route you will follow, and the operating times of lifts if your itinerary requires their use. Remember that the accessibility of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to the current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get well informed about the route and its conditions before leaving
  • leave information about your itinerary, your approximate return time and carry your mobile phone
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find along the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT signs, and red and white markings on stones or trees
  • book in advance the malga or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never leave waste on the mountain and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the refuges or malgas you visit

Starting point

Parking in Val di Valorz

Directions

Once you have parked the car in Val Valorz, after the bridge over the Rabbies stream, take the SAT 121 trail which first leads to the Valorz Waterfalls and shortly after to a sparse larch wood, to the Soprasasso Lake. Following the lake northwest, you then reach Lago Rotondo. Passing this one, you climb on the right, reaching near Lago Quarto and after a grassy stretch, to Lago Alto. A few minutes later it is possible to reach Passo Valletta with a wonderful panorama over the valley. The return is planned along the same route.

It is also possible to climb to Lago Alto and Lago Rotondo starting from Malga Stabli, easily reachable by car on a dirt road from Ortisé, and proceed along the road crossing green and wide pastures until you reach Malga Bronzolo at an altitude of 2,083 meters. Leaving the malga behind, continue along the SAT 121A trail towards Passo Valletta, from which you can already glimpse the two lakes embedded among the rocks. Then descend to reach Lago Alto and then Lago Rotondo at 2424 meters altitude. The return is also planned along the same route.
