The accessibility of trails in mountain environments is closely linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural events, environmental changes, and weather. Always gather detailed information about the route and its conditions before setting off. You can do this by contacting the nearest information office.
If you plan to reach an alpine hut or refuge, make sure it is open. If you want to eat or sleep there, call in advance to book.
Leave information about your planned route and always carry your phone with you.
In case of emergency, call 112.
Never leave rubbish at high altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at huts or alpine farms.
If you spot wild animals along the trail, stay on the path, do not get too close, avoid shouting, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Pellizzano - Malga Bassa di Fazzon (1279 m)

Directions

Just before Malga Bassa di Fazzon (1279 m), take the forest road on the right, which crosses the dense fir forest on the slope of Monte Salvat that separates the Fazzon Valley from the green meadows of the Valpiana basin (1221 m). From here, after about a 15-minute easy walk, you reach the homonymous malga (1311 m). Here you can lie down in the cool grass surrounding the malga and enjoy a sunny break, or taste some cheese made by the malga’s cheesemakers while watching the cows grazing. The return is along the same route.

ALTERNATIVE ITINERARY:

To reach Monte Salvat, after Malga Bassa, continue toward the lake until you take the uphill path on the right. From here, you climb a total elevation of 400 m to the mountain summit, where you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. Then you can descend via the dirt road that connects to the linking road between Fazzon and Valpiana, and from there return to the starting point, completing a loop. Before walking the path, it is advised to contact the valley Information Offices to check its accessibility.

You can reach Pellizzano by the Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ – MEZZANA – FUCINE – VERMIGLIO – TONALE (download outbound and return timetables) or by the Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ – MEZZANA – FUCINE – COGOLO – PEIO (download outbound and return timetables).

How to get there

Follow the SS42 to the village of Pellizzano. Near the Information Office, follow the signs for Lago dei Caprioli – Fazzon, turning onto Via dei Baschenis and, after crossing the Noce stream, at the junction continue straight on Via Giovanni Battista Ramus and follow the signs to the locality of Fazzon until you reach the parking lot near Malga Bassa di Fazzon.

Where to park

Leave the car in the parking lots near Malga Bassa di Fazzon. During the summer period, parking is paid.

For this hike, we recommend wearing hiking boots and a hat, and bringing a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, and a water bottle in your backpack.
