Safety information

Rules for mountain walks:

  • The traversability of itineraries in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before leaving. You can do this by contacting the nearest Information Office;
  • If you plan to reach a malga or a refuge, make sure they are open, and if you intend to stop to eat or sleep, call them in advance to book;
  • Leave information about your itinerary and always carry your phone;
  • In case of an accident, call the number 112;
  • Never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it near the refuges or malgas you will visit;
  • If you spot wild animals along the route, stay on the path you're walking, do not approach too closely, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Pellizzano - Malga Bassa di Fazzon (1279 m)

Directions

Just before the Malga Bassa di Fazzon (1279 m), take the forest road on the right that crosses the dense fir forest of the Monte Salvat ridge separating the Valle di Fazzon from the green meadows of the Valpiana basin (1221 m). From here, after a simple 15-minute walk, you reach the homonymous malga (1311 m). Here you can lie down on the cool grass surrounding the malga and enjoy a break in the sun, or taste some cheese produced by the malga's cheesemakers while watching the cows grazing. The return is planned along the same route.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE:

To reach Monte Salvat instead, after the Malga Bassa, continue towards the lake until you take the uphill path on the right. From here, you climb a total elevation gain of 400 m to the summit of the mountain from where you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. It is then possible to descend via the dirt road that joins the connecting road between Fazzon and Valpiana, and from there return to the starting point completing a loop. Before taking the path, it is advised to contact the valley Information Offices to check its accessibility.
