Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike, we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your fitness level. In case of doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices;
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the schedules of the lifts, if your itinerary involves their use. Remember that the passability of mountain paths is strictly linked to current conditions and depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. Therefore, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting out;
  • leave information about your itinerary, your approximate return time, and bring your phone with you;
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs, and red and white brushstrokes on stones or trees;
  • call 112 in case of an accident;
  • book in advance the huts or refuges where you intend to eat or sleep;
  • never leave waste on the mountain and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the huts or malgas you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the way, we invite you to stay on the path, not get too close, not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to avoid it instinctively chasing them, frightening them.

Starting point

Malga Stabli

Directions

Reach Malga Stabli on foot or by car from Ortisé, then continue on foot along the forest road marked by trail 121A, which goes into the forest towards Val Molinaccio. From here, after a short stretch through a forest of firs and larches, you will reach Malga Bronzolo (2085 m), where you can admire a spectacular view over Val di Sole. From the hut, head north, following trail 121A towards Malga del Monte; after passing the first challenging part, you will arrive near a watering trough where you will find signs for Lago di Ortisé. Then follow the path that winds through larches, firs, and rhododendrons until you reach the vegetation limit; from here, continue along the mid-slope of the mountain and you will comfortably reach the amphitheater of Lago di Ortisé. The lake, located in the Vegaia Tremenesca mountain range, offers a privileged panoramic balcony over the Adamello Presanella, the Dolomites of Brenta, and the high peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain range. To return to the valley, leave the lake behind you and descend keeping Rio Valletta on your right, and follow the path that runs along the entire Val Molinaccio until you reach the new route Baita Laghetti - Malga Valenaia. From this point, you can return towards Malga Stabli by continuing left, crossing the wooden bridge over Rio Valletta, leaving Baita dei Cacciatori on your left, then reach the forest road and descend to the starting point. Alternatively, once you meet the new trail, continue right following the signs for Malga Valenaia. Then walk along the comfortable trail, which, among juniper berries and fragrant stone pines, leads to Malga di Valenaia. Finally, take the forest road that descends from Malga Pozze and follow it downhill until you reach the junction with the road that leads back to Malga Stabli.

Route recommended for people with visual impairments

Reach Malga Stabli by car and park in one of the parking areas found on the way up to the hut (in the picnic area just before the hut or directly at the hut). From the hut, follow the forest road towards Malga Bronzolo and after passing the 5 hairpin bends, turn left and follow the signs for Baita Laghetti, which you will reach after about 20 minutes of walking. From Baita, continue along the path until you reach a small bridge. Cross the bridge and turn right following the signs for Lago di Ortisé. The return is along the same route.
