Moderate to difficult route that crosses high-altitude grassy pastures reaching Cimon de Bolentina and along the ridge, Piz de Montes.

Pleasant hike that along a forest road leads, with a constant slope, to the pastures of Plaza Marendaia and then to Malga di Bolentina Alta. From here, more demanding and easier sections alternate until you reach Cimon di Bolentina, from which you can admire the majestic Dolomites of Brenta, the peaks of Adamello - Presanella, and Maddalene. Continuing along the ridge, you reach Piz de Montes. The return is planned along the same outbound route. Alternatively, it is possible to close the loop by continuing along trail 119 to the junction with SAT 120, which is followed to the fork with the sign for Malga Bolentina. From here, you return to trail SAT 119.

Suggestions

In the final stretch to reach Cimon de Bolentina, there is a slightly exposed point. The same applies to the final stretch to reach Piz de Montes.

Safety information

To undertake a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow, and the operating times of the lifts if your itinerary requires their use. Remember that the passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and thus depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before leaving
  • leave information about your itinerary, approximate return time, and carry your mobile phone with you
  • pay attention to the signs and markers you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, white and red SAT markers, and red and white paint marks on stones or trees
  • book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never leave waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at refuges or mountain huts you visit
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to stay on the path you are following, not get too close, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing them and frightening them
