Safety information

To face a mountain hike we suggest you:

  • choose a route suitable for your preparation. If in doubt, contact the Mountain Guides or our Information Offices
  • prepare your hike: check the weather forecast, the route you will follow and the timings of the lifts, if your itinerary involves their use. Remember that the accessibility of routes in a mountainous environment is strictly linked to contingent conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off
  • leave information about your itinerary, your approximate return time and bring your mobile phone with you
  • pay attention to the signs and markings you find on the route: Stelvio Park signs, SAT white and red signs and red and white strokes on stones or trees
  • book in advance the mountain hut or refuge where you intend to stop to eat or sleep
  • never leave waste in the highlands and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or mountain huts you visit
  • if you spot wild animals along the route, we invite you to remain on the path you are following, do not get too close, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash, to prevent it from instinctively chasing them and scaring them

Starting point

Vermiglio

Directions

From the characteristic village of Vermiglio, near the town hall, take the SAT 126 path and ascend to Malga Saviana. Continuing to follow the trail, you will enter the wild Val Saviana, where you will cross flowered meadows and larch woods until you reach a junction that will direct you to Cima Boai-Val Comasine. Once you reach the summit, take a break to reward yourself for the effort by admiring the splendid view you can observe from up there: the entire Val di Sole, the Brenta peaks and those of the Ortles-Cevedale group rise around you. From the summit, return to the junction and head towards Val di Peio, crossing the morainic basin of La Valletta to reach Malga Mason and then Malga Val Comasine. Between these two mountain huts, we suggest you visit the ancient larches that will amaze you with their majesty. From the hut, descend along a dirt road until you reach the Val Comasine Mines. From here, following the Miners' Path you reach La Colem, a panoramic point over the upper Val di Sole and Val di Peio, then returning to Vermiglio.
