The medium-easy difficulty hike partly develops in the cool woods of Val di Peio and partly on a comfortable dirt road exposed to the sun until you reach the Piz del Pai Waterfalls.

This pleasant walk starts above the small village of Celentino and will make you cross wide and green meadows exposed to the warm rays of the sun, then enter the dense woods where you can enjoy a pleasant refreshing breeze. After leaving the comfortable dirt road, the route continues along a simple path up to the waterfall. Let yourself be enchanted by the Val di Pejo woods, enjoy the cool water jets sliding on your skin and admire the small but charming drop of the Piz del Pai Waterfall, falling into the narrow rock gorge below.

Safety information

Rules for mountain walks:

  • The passability of routes in a mountain environment is strictly linked to current conditions and therefore depends on natural phenomena, environmental changes, and weather conditions. For this reason, get good information about the route and its conditions before setting off. You can do this by contacting the Information Office nearest to you;
  • If you plan to reach a mountain hut or refuge, make sure they are open and, if you intend to stop for food or sleep, call them in advance to book;
  • Leave information about your itinerary and always carry your mobile phone with you;
  • In case of an accident call the number 112;
  • Never abandon waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at the refuges or mountain huts you visit;
  • If you encounter wild animals along the route, please stay on the path you are following, do not get too close, do not shout, and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them.

Starting point

Celentino - road towards Malga Campo

Directions

Above the village of Celentino (1342 m), take the road towards Malga Campo and travel about 400 m on the paved road, and just before the road turns into a dirt road, leave the car at the small parking lot. From here, a rather steep path starts, which after a short distance becomes easier and alternates false flats with gentler climbs. At the end of the dirt road, take a simple path through the woods that after 5-10 minutes leads to the waterfall (1535 m). The route is very pleasant, surrounded by green meadows along which you can feel the warmth of the sun's rays on your skin, and dense woods in the shade where you can enjoy a break on warm summer afternoons. The waterfall is not imposing, but its particular shape nestled in a narrow gorge of rocks and the beautiful natural environment surrounding it make it a jewel worth visiting.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTE:

Possibility of a circular hike starting from the village of Celledizzo, taking the dirt road to Celentino and after 300 m turning left, following the signs for Malga Sassa, Piz del Pai Waterfall. From the waterfall, take the path towards the village of Celentino, from which you take the dirt road "Le Penagiole" to the right until Celledizzo.

Public transportation

You can reach the village of Celentino with the Trentino Trasporti line bus MALÈ - MEZZANA - FUCINE - COGOLO - PEIO (download the outbound and return timetables).

How to get there

Follow the SS42 to the junction for Val di Peio, which you take by turning onto the SP87. Continue for about 3 kilometers, then turn right following the signs for Celentino.
