Suggestions

Pay particular attention to skiers on the slopes upon arrival at the route.

Safety information

For snow hiking activities, follow these guidelines:

  • inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before setting off. You can do this by contacting the nearest tourist information office;
  • the day before the excursion check the weather forecast and the avalanche bulletin;
  • if you plan to reach a mountain hut or refuge, make sure they are open and, if you intend to stop to eat or sleep, call in advance to book;
  • before leaving, if you don’t feel well, postpone the outing until you feel better;
  • never leave waste up high;
  • if you see wild animals along the way, we invite you not to approach, not to shout and to keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and frightening them.

Starting point

Parking at the entrance of the road leading to Malga Dimaro

Directions

From the town of Folgarida, continue on SS 239 towards Madonna di Campiglio. After about 3 kilometers from the Belvedere di Folgarida area, at the junction leading to Malga di Dimaro, you will find on your right a snow-free area where you can park your car. Continue on foot along the forest road until you reach Malga di Dimaro (closed in winter), where you can take a short break to admire the spectacular view of the Dolomiti di Brenta, with the Sasso Rosso dominating this postcard view
From the hut, the route continues through the forest and, via some hairpin bends, reaches the Folgarida Marilleva ski area, within the ski area Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta Val di Sole Val Rendena, specifically the Malghet Aut locality, a crossroads for skiers who reach the slopes via the cable cars departing from Folgarida and Folgarida Belvedere. Due to the heavy presence of skiers, we advise you to be very careful.  At Malghet Aut you can plan a stop at the local restaurants and mountain huts: a lunch with a view of the Dolomites is guaranteed!

The return is along the same route if you left your car in the parking lot along SS239 towards Madonna di Campiglio. The alternative is to take the lifts that take you back to Folgarida.
If you prefer, you can do the route in the opposite direction, that is, reach Malghet Aut by the lifts and follow the route backwards to Malga di Dimaro and down to the state road towards Madonna di Campiglio. We suggest this variant if someone can pick you up at the parking lot, as we do not recommend walking along SS 239 up to Folgarida.

Public transportation

You can reach Campo Carlo Magno or the Belvedere di Folgarida locality using the MALÈ- FOLGARIDA - MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO line (download schedules for outbound and return), by Trentino Trasporti. To reach the junction for Malga di Dimaro, however, you will have to walk along SS 239, on which we invite you to be particularly careful of cars, which sometimes reach high speeds in this stretch. The distance at the start of the route is 3 km if you get off at the Folgarida Belvedere stop and about 2 km if you get off at Campo Carlo Magno, Genziana stop.

How to get there

From Val di Sole, follow SS42 to Dimaro and at the roundabout, take SS 239 towards Folgarida - Madonna di Campiglio.
In Folgarida stay on the state road and, after about 3 km past the Belvedere di Folgarida locality, you will find on your right the forest road that leads to Malga di Dimaro. The road is not passable by car in winter, so leave the car in the parking lot and continue on foot.

Where to park

In the parking lot on the right (coming from Folgarida), at the entrance to the forest road (not passable in case of snow) that leads to Malga di Dimaro.
