Safety information

For snow hiking activities follow these guidelines:

  • inform yourself well about the route and its conditions before leaving. You can do this by contacting the nearest tourist information office;
  • the day before the hike check the weather forecast and the avalanche bulletin;
  • if you plan to reach a mountain hut or refuge, make sure they are open and, if you intend to stop for food or sleep, call them in advance to book;
  • if you do not feel well before leaving, postpone the outing until you feel better;
  • never leave waste at altitude and, if possible, avoid leaving it at shelters or mountain huts you visit;
  • if you spot wild animals along the path, please do not approach, do not shout and keep your dog on a leash to prevent it from instinctively chasing and scaring them.

Starting point

Piazzale Folgarida

Directions

Folgarida (1,300 m) - Malghetto di Almazzago (1,389 m) - Marilleva 1400 (1,400 m)

At the highest part of Piazzale Folgarida, beyond the cable car departure, follow the forest road for a short stretch until the first hairpin turn, where you will take, on the right side of the road, a clear path that crosses the Val Rotian and reaches the pasture of Malghetto di Almazzago. Here plan a stop to admire the beautiful view over Val di Sole. At this point enter the dense conifer forest and enjoy the silence reigning among the branches, until you reach the intermediate station of the cable car 'Daolasa – Valmastellina' located near the Malghetto di Mastellina at 1,364 m, in the Campiglio Dolomiti di Brenta Val di Sole Val Rendena ski area.
Cross the cable car and after about 100 meters take the path to Marilleva on the left. Continue until you reach the provincial road. Carefully pass it and take again the forest road, which after about 300 meters narrows slightly until it becomes a path. You will cross a small valley and after a few meters you will have reached the tourist station of Marilleva 1400. At this point you can return by retracing the same route.

An easy alternative to the indicated route could be this: take the Daolasa – Valmastellina cable car from Daolasa of Commezzadura, get off at the intermediate station and retrace the route towards Folgarida described in the first lines, passing through Malghetto di Almazzago and Val Rotian. This version can be traveled in about 1 hour and a quarter (one way only), for a total of 2 km going and another 2 returning on the same road.

Public transportation

You can reach Folgarida with the MALÉ- FOLGARIDA - MADONNA DI CAMPIGLIO line (download the outbound and return schedules) by Trentino Trasporti. Get off at the Folgarida hairpin turn and continue on foot for about 200 meters towards Piazzale Folgarida, where the itinerary begins.
If you decide to end your itinerary at Marilleva 1400, you can descend to the valley by the Marilleva1400 - Mezzana - Malé line bus (download schedules).

How to get there

From Val di Sole follow SS42 to Dimaro and at the roundabout take SS 239 towards Folgarida - Madonna di Campiglio. At the Folgarida hairpin turn (where the bus stop is evident), turn right and enter the village. Continue straight for about 200 meters until you arrive at Piazzale Folgarida.

Where to park

At Piazzale Folgarida or in the covered parking lot near the congress center 'Alla sosta dell'Imperatore'.
