The Alpine Gravel Val di Pejo is a definitely challenging route: with its almost 1,900 meters of uphill elevation and a length of nearly 62 km, it will surely test your skills on the gravel bike.

The gravel route in Val di Peio extends from the Mezzana railway station and climbs up the Val de la Mare, where the climb will not be delayed: steep slopes on forest roads, fully immersed in dense conifer woods until reaching Malga Pontevecchio. Here, you can take a short break to admire the splendid panorama of the southern peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, a true spectacle. Returning to Peio village, the route continues towards Malga di Covel, where you can relax in the green pastures of the malga, where some friendly cows grazing the grass will keep you company. Continuing, the route heads towards Lago Pian Palù, but it is not yet time to catch your breath. Along the trail, there will be sections so steep that you will have to carry your bike by hand, but at the top of the climb, the fascinating emerald waters of Lago Pian Palù will appear.

Starting point

Mezzana - FTM Station

Directions

Starting from the Mezzana railway station, you go up along the comfortable valley cycle-pedestrian path to the characteristic village of Ossana. From here, turn right, entering the fascinating Val di Peio. The climb is one of the most challenging and will lead you through the Val de la Mare to Malga Pontevecchio. Here you will be greeted by a spectacular view of the southern peaks of the Ortles-Cevedale group, which will repay you for the effort made during the climb. The route then descends towards Peio Paese and from there heads west towards Malga di Covel. You take a serpent-shaped path, particularly steep, which will lead to Lago Pian Palù. The path has very rough terrain and a significant slope, so excellent riding skills are required. Once reached the lake, where we recommend you take the time to take a nice photo

Public transportation

You can reach the village of Mezzana by the TRENTO - MALÈ - MEZZANA train (download the schedules for outbound and return).

How to get there

Follow the SS42 until you reach the village of Mezzana. After passing the Information Office, about 500 meters later, turn left into Via per Marilleva and follow the road until you reach the Mezzana railway station.

Where to park

You can leave your car in the parking lot of the Mezzana railway station.

To tackle this route, we recommend wearing a bike helmet and bringing a small backpack with a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, and a water bottle. It is also important to carry a repair kit: inner tube, pump, sealant, patches, and a set of tools for quick repairs.
